With this series\, we bring together leading authors\, policy-makers\, researchers\, and technologists with those who are interested in energy to share insights on energy policy and decision-making. \n  \n  \nModerator: Kathleen Araujo\, Director\, CAES Energy Policy Institute \n  \nJohn Sargent serves as Specialist in Science and Technology Policy in the Resources\, Science and Industry Division of the Congressional Research Service (CRS)\, consulting with and providing information and analysis to Members of Congress as well as staff. He specializes in federal research and development authorizations and appropriations\, U.S. and global R&D funding\, research security\, the semiconductor industry\, public-private partnerships\, innovation\, manufacturing\, and the U.S. science and engineering workforce. John has lead responsibility for the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)\, the National Nanotechnology Initiative (NNI)\, and Manufacturing USA. He shares responsibility for Department of Defense research\, development\, test\, and evaluation. Among other duties\, John co-authors and coordinates the annual CRS report\, Federal Research and Development Funding. \n  \nPrior to his current role\, John served as a senior policy analyst in the Department of Commerce’s Technology Administration. He successfully led federal participation in the Partnership for a New Generation of Vehicles (PNGV)\, a landmark public-private partnership between the federal government and the U.S. auto industry to develop breakthrough technologies capable of enabling a three-fold improvement in automotive fuel efficiency. During his 15-years in the U.S. Army Reserve\, John served as a platoon leader in the 343rd Engineer Company\, command information officer and public information officer for the 310th Theater Army Area Command\, and commander of the 201st Public Affairs Detachment. \n  \nMr. Sargent holds a bachelor of science in systems engineering from the University of Virginia.  \n  \nCorrie E. Clark serves as Specialist in Energy Policy in the Resources\, Science\, and Industry Division of the Congressional Research Service. Her issue areas include energy efficiency\, renewable energy\, and electrification. If the EPA receives a high volume of registrations for the public hearing\, the EPA may continue the public hearing on June 15\, 2023. On each hearing day\, the EPA may close a session 15 minutes after the last pre-registered speaker has testified if there are no additional speakers. The EPA will announce further details at https://www.epa.gov/​stationary-sources-air-pollution/​greenhouse-gas-standards-and-guidelines-fossil-fuel-fired-power. \n\nThe EPA will begin pre-registering speakers for the hearing no later than 1 business day following the publication of this document in the Federal Register . The EPA will accept registrations on an individual basis. If the EPA receives a high volume of registrations for the public hearing\, the EPA may continue the public hearing on June 15\, 2023. On each hearing day\, the EPA may close a session 15 minutes after the last pre-registered speaker has testified if there are no additional speakers. The EPA will announce further details at https://www.epa.gov/​stationary-sources-air-pollution/​greenhouse-gas-standards-and-guidelines-fossil-fuel-fired-power. \n\nThe EPA will begin pre-registering speakers for the hearing no later than 1 business day following the publication of this document in the Federal Register . The EPA will accept registrations on an individual basis. To register to speak at the virtual hearing\, please use the online registration form available at https://www.epa.gov/​stationary-sources-air-pollution/​greenhouse-gas-standards-and-guidelines-fossil-fuel-fired-power or contact the public hearing team at (888) 372–8699 or by email at SPPDpublichearing@epa.gov. The last day to pre-register to speak at the hearing will be June 6\, 2023.
